Earth Day 22nd April.
Humanity is paused by a virus. The world is not as noisy. The earth is breaking into Spring freshness The air is cleaner, fish are wandering into newly clean water. The wild seems a little less threatened. We in lockdown can examine our lives and the way we have been leading them. Time perhaps to be more aware of this earth now that we have more time.
Tomorrow, April 22nd is Earth Day The Earth Day Movement started fifty years ago, in 1970.
These words are found on their website. ‘Our world needs transformational change. It’s time for the world to hold sectors accountable for their role in our environmental crisis while also calling for bold, creative, and innovative solutions. This will require action at all levels, from business and investment to city and national government…. ….that’s where you come in: As an individual, you yield real power and influence as a consumer, a voter, and a member of a community that can unite for change’
Tomorrow let us take some moments to reflect on those words which have been ringing out for fifty years. We know that a world leader can force great change with one stroke of the pen. And millions saying a few words and making small changes can also drive through great change.
Let us seek to protect the natural world and bring clean air and green growth into the spaces where we live.
“Nature is ever at work building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another.” – John Muir
Let us not spoil the song but help the earth find breath to sing it.
