The Bolton group celebrated Samhain with readings, meditation and tributes to family and friends who had passed through the gate during the last year. We found that sharing sorrows can be healing when told to people who care and understand. One of our number had ‘adopted’ a friend of his grandfathers who had been killed in the 14-18 war. The man had no living family but our member found his grave and pays his respects to it each November. Another of our group had baked ‘soul cakes’ which we enjoyed eating and there was always the chance we would be spared purgatory by eating them. They should really be given to every poor person who called. The act of giving saved a soul it used to be said. No one called so we eat them with a clear conscience.
